The man was sitting on the ledge, watching the sunset fall over his ranch. His heart let out a small groan at the thought, but his eyes remained fixed on the horizon line, despite the glare and the heat emanating from the glow. His mind had long since tuned out the constant shrieks of his children arguing with one another. In the distance, he could hear his wife, now about to burst in her eighth month of pregnancy, reprimand the children for fighting and as she did, he found himself smiling at all of sounds growing together with the buzz of the insects in the fields. He would miss those fields and those sounds and although they didn't know it yet, the children would miss those things one day as well.
