Babette Babich was born in NYC and studied the biological sciences at SUNY Stony Brook before switching to philosophy (scientists routinely have to "sacrifice" animals for study and research purposes and she would have no part of it). She is currently Professor of Philosophy at Fordham University in New York City and has also taught in Boston, Milwaukee, Tübingen, and Washington DC as well sa San Diego. Babette Babich has published widely, particularly in philosophy of science and technology, ancient philosophy (and Greek bronzes) as well as critical theory and the arts. She is a specialist in Nietzsche and Heidegger and has a special passion for the question of animal suffering, the fate of the trees and the earth and writes on philosophy, poetry, and music. She is also, like many philosophers, an admirer of cats. Hedgehogs. Squirrels. And so on and so on.
