Very good book that had action, romance, laugh-out-loud moments and a pirate monkey. What more could you ask for? The story kept my attention until the last page and got it on the first. The lead character reminded me of a Joe Pesci type character. Made me want to move to the Florida Keys.

Abandoned at 21% completed. This is supposed to be an irreverent spoof of a murder mystery, but I felt the lighthearted approach to the main character sodomizing his lover's husband with a vacuum cleaner attachment was simply too offensive to continue reading. Two topics that I can't tolerate being ...

Very rarely does a trusted 'go to' author make me this cross. Lazy, messy and padded out.

This was actually my first foray into the works of Carl Hiaasen *gasp* – I know, it's hard to believe. I can't say I wasn't forewarned† that Bad Monkey might not make a great first impression for Carl (beloved by many whose opinions I hold in high regard). But, I've been known to disregard good advi...

More than laugh out loud funny. But the roach patrol assignment as a restaurant inspector leads to gross out descriptions that might cause the reader, as it did the protagonist on the assignment to lose weight.Very enjoyable descriptions of the Florida Keys, very strange and wonderful characters, ...

This book may just get me back on Hiaasen again. I enjoyed the story very much; only taking a star off for what read like a rushed ending and lack of epilogue, which Hiaasen did for previous books.

4.5 StarsSearching for a book with a REAL cast of characters? Well, look no further friends ‘cause this one has them all – an ex-policeman turned roach-patrol food inspector, a beauty of a medical examiner, a timid sheriff, an evil stepmother, her new boyfriend and a greedy stepdaughter to complete...

I really like Hiassen's quirky humor but I've read so many of his novels that the formula is wearing thin. Quirky character, murder, connected crime that have to do with harming the environment. But fortunately Hiassen always make me laugh and that's why I keep reading his books. This one also has t...

I just simply did not like this book. An explanation on the plot starts 68% of the way and lasts until the end.

So, in a screwball comic novel we don't really care about outrageously implausible plot points, right? Good. Now that that's settled I can deep six my disbelief and cheerfully get behind the Capuchin. After two disappointing books, Carl Hiaasen is back!
