An absorbing tale of lives lived in a mining town, of those who stayed, those who left, and those who came back. The ending was a bit disappointing, with [spoiler] the stories tied up in a tidy package with some happily marrieds, [/spoiler] but the journey was worthwhile.

It was easy to dip in and out of the Novaks' lives, but Haigh's writing style and gentle characterizations...
