Dick Francis was the master of writing the everyman hero: ordinary people thrust into extraordinary situations. It's part of the appeal for me. Banker is a strange Francis novel for it seems, it feels, as if it lacks originality, at least in the character of Tom. The scenes with Tom and Judith are well written, and there are some wonderful lines. The ending, however, seems too pat.
