Did not like the female character Selina. She is frustratingly feeble and whiny. She will do just what pleases everyone else around her, doesn’t have a backbone and can’t fight for herself. I sincerely doubt she has a brain or that she knows what she wants. Irritated to the maximum with this outer...
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The Dasher/The Duke/The guy whose name appears only once in the entire book is a self-important asshole who thinks he is God's gift to the world. He is bored with women and insists he will never marry because women do not keep his interest. And no, he isn't ...
Barbara Cartland is no doubt a very famous romance author but I have never read anything by her so when I saw this at the library I thought why not.Queen Victoria needs to pacify her relationship with a foreign Prince so she offers him a an English bride. The unlucky woman is Lavina. Lavina's father...
Oh wow. Sexist and ideal to the very core, half the time I wanted to clobber the heroine (Simonetta) because she was so virginal and unaware of how the real world works that I cannot imagine how she would have acted in her wedding night. Not to mention... all of her sentences... were like... this!...
For someone used to historical romance with more of a sensual kick, these Barbara Cartland stories are rather virginal, but still good entertainment for those afternoons when you'd like to read, but nothing seems to whet your appetite. The Scent of Roses is just one of such books. There's enough in...
This is a vintage Barbara Cartland story with a nobleman in need of a lesson, a young lady determined to teach him one, but instead of taking on the task herself, she tricks her friend into doing the deed. The marquis falls in love with the girl, she runs away, he finds her despite the fact she didn'...
Another one of those BC templates...A Mr./lord/baron/viscount/earl/marquis/duke/prince/king etc. needs a wife/pretend wife/ pretend mistress etc. to get an inheritance/get rid of an unwanted woman/rise in rank/complete a top secret mission etc., and there’s a convenient miss/vicar’s daughter/lady/pr...
This one just might be my favorite BC story out there, it has all that I like (and all that I don't) in BC stories, nice dose of intrigue (not too much, though, it's not romantic suspense after all), a naive heroine, a rakish hero that doesn't know what hit him, a villain lusting after the heroine.....
