Some of you may recognize me from the photos that were printed on the editor's page of Cottage Style, Romantic Living, Country Victorian and Flower Gardens magazine. For the past twenty-five years, I have produced magazines for Harris Publications in New York City. Fifteen years ago my family moved from Brooklyn to a rural suburb of Northern Virginia, about 25 miles from Washington DC. It was quite a change!I wanted my son who was six years old at the time to have a more country lifestyle. So, while he learned how to raise chickens (for eggs only!) and grow vegetables, I learned tele-commuting skills and how to juggle a cup of tea, an over- stuffed purse and a laptop on a fast-moving Amtrak train on my bi-monthly trips to the New York offices. My husband learned that commuting on a daily basis was even worse than he feared. My mother, who gave up her city apartment and moved into her own apartment on the lower level of our house, discovered that she needed to make carefully-planned shopping lists because the nearest grocery was a twenty-minute drive away. In 2007, after twenty-five years of editing decorating and gardening magazines, I decided to write a book on Waterside Cottages and work on some freelance assignments. It was published in July 2009. Now, when I'm not doing book signings, I'm busily at work on my next book. Stay tuned...
