Barbara Kamler was born in Newark, New Jersey and came to Australia in 1972, for two years. Many years later she is still in Australia, living and working in Melbourne. She is Emeritus Professor at Deakin University and the author of many academic book titles and journal articles on writing across the lifespan. Leaving New Jersey is her first collection of poetry—56 moving prose poems which explore the tensions of moving from one country to another.
