Barbara Rodriguez has worked as a celebrity nanny in New York City, Santa Barbara, California, and Nashville, Tennessee. Her clients have included movie stars, musicians, artists, photographers, and actors. Barbara Rodriguez was born in Miami, Florida, and as a child, lived in many different countries. Both her parents immigrated to the United States from Cuba, and as political refugees, they suffered the loss of their first country to the Cuban Revolution. Nostalgic for Spanish culture, Barbara's father (a real estate developer) and mother (a social worker and artist) moved their small family to Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and South America. Barbara and her older brother, Frank, lived a bilingual and multicultural childhood. They played in English, spoke Spanish at home, and learned to speak Creole in Haiti, a beautiful country, though stricken with poverty. Barbara was humanized at an early age by the same harsh conditions that many Haitian children live in today. Her one inspiration was her grandmother, "Tata," who instilled in her a love for organic, whole foods and holistic healing. "Tata" taught her to listen from the heart.'' What I've learned from Tata is how to listen for those answers, really listen, to a child who is sick or unhappy or having trouble communicating, and to find the remedies--whether whole foods, natural cures, or behavioral lessons--that will actually help.My mission continues to evolve. Over the past twenty years, I have worked with a wide range of economically and culturally diverse children ranging in age from eleven months to sixteen years old, and I've forged unique and lasting relationships with them all. I like to believe Tata has been there too, whispering in my ear, guiding my hand, and speaking through me to continue helping and healing the children of the world. ''When she is not working, Barbara loves to travel, work in organic gardens, and lose herself at Whole Foods Organic Market, pondering the infinite possibilities of fresh, natural vegan food.
