Kids like the puns. Adults wonder if delicious baked goods could possibly be worth the trouble of Amelia.
It's been 30 years and I still have memories of this book. I liked this book because it showed how words can be confusing if you didn't understand the culture. Growing up in a different culture, I could relate to Amelia quite a bit.
