Not the best of Heyer’s novels, it’s a good story nonetheless. The plot is charming, the characters 3-dimentional, and the dialog diverting. The problem lies in a different direction: the book starts long before the story. For about the first third of the book, the author follows our protagonists in...
I really liked this story. What most drawn me into it was the fact that I kind of understood Maya and I kind of knew what Ben went through. People... people can be cruel. I am so happy none from my closed ones have to went through something like Ben, though some of them went through really bad things...
I wish I could rate this higher, but for the first half of the book I was intolerably bored. I thought this might be the only Heyer I'd never get through, the only worthy moments were the arguments between Serena and Rotherham, but in the beginning there wasn't nearly enough of them. The second half...
I've been meaning to read Bath Tangle since I spent a semester in Bath during my junior year of college. It was gratifying to read about familiar places as the story unfolded (although it is not set entirely in Bath). Unlike some of Heyer's novels, I found this to be a bit slow to develop, with perh...
I've started this book several times... but somehow, it just doesn't grab me. I love Georgette Heyer, but this book doesn't hold my attention. So I'll shelve it for now and see if I can come back to it at another time.
What a mess, or should I say tangle. I can't spoil anything but it gets messy when people fall in love, or think they are in love. The title sure suits the book. Serena has quite the temper and is not afraid to say what she thinks. She is a real whirlwind. I can't help to like her because she is jus...
For those who may not have heard of her, Georgette Heyer was a British novelist who in her long career wrote 30 historical romance novels and 12 crime thrillers. She was greatly inspired by Jane Austen, and is probably the reason why Regency romance is now a genre onto itself. Heyer's romances, unli...
I hardly ever re-read this one, and after having read it, I remembered why. There’s a certainly type of Heyer which I tend not to enjoy as much, and this is party of that type. It’s not nearly as bad as a couple of others, but I wasn’t able to fully enjoy the story or the romance. [Oct. 2011]
