Berk is one half of a writing team, The Brothers Washburn, with his younger brother Andy. Berk and Andy, are two of 9 sons (16 children) who grew up in the Mojave desert near Death Valley, packing rifles and dynamite across the trackless wastelands of the desert on motorcycles and dune buggies. After college, Berk was a business lawyer for 35 years, working for international commercial finance companies in the mid-west. Andy was a trial practice lawyer for 25 years in Southern California. Both have now left the wastelands of the law to return to the wastelands of their youth and are now writing fiction full time. They were always story tellers, first to friends and siblings, then to children, and now to numerous grandkids. Scary stories are a family specialty. When Berk started writing a young adult science fiction series, Andy also tried his hand at writing fiction. It didn't take long for them to come together as The Brothers Washburn on a young adult horror series set in the real desert mining town of Trona, California. The cycle of life has come full circle, and their adventures of today are turning out to be more explosive than the adventures of their youth.
