Betsy Ray is almost 5. She has an older sister, Julia, but no friends on her street of her own age. She lives in a small town in Minnesota around the turn of the 20th century. Then a family moves in across the street and they have a 5-year old girl as well. Her name is Tacy Kelly and she's very shy....
Between Laura Ingalls Wilder and Maud Hart Lovelace, the Upper Midwest in the 1930s and 40s did more than it's share in writing really good stories for children. Apparently, Lovelace has such a loyal following that a Betsy-Tacy convention has been held in Lovelace's home town and the series' setting...
I picked up 8 of the 10 of this series at the thrift store, and thought I would Pre-read it before sharing it with my daughter some day.Being raised in Wisconsin, I loved the poem about Milwaukee, and them imaging that it was an exciting and exotic place!

I've listened to this wonderful audio book twice in the last two days. I've read the actual book countless times, so often that I know it almost by heart. Lovelace was an amazing writer, and Sutton Foster does a splendid job with the narration. The little girls are so very real, and the evocation of...
Betsy and Tacy are five year old girls – best friends and neighbors who live in a small Minnesota town around the turn of the century. At times their world is so alien to me and my daughter that they might as well be living on the moon. And I’m talking about more than just the way they are allowed ...
