Bill Hayes is one of those rare writers who have truly lived the old saying: "Write what you know!" Since the 1960s he has turned his three prime passions--music, martial arts, and motorcycles--into a literary career. The music part came first, as he wrote record reviews in sleazy underground '60s newspapers; but things got a lot less cheesy as slicker review venues and a long-running column in Real Blues magazine followed! Many features in the world-renowned Black Belt magazine allowed for the martial arts outlet. But it's Hayes' love for motorcycles--specifically the always-compelling biker culture--that launched Bill Hayes' writing success. His bestselling book, The Original Wild Ones: Tales of the Boozefighters Motorcycle Club, followed by American Biker (www.americanbikerthebook.com) and The One-Percenter Encyclopedia have become landmarks within the genre. His new book Hell on Wheels: An Illustrated History of Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs is due out in early 2014.And now Hayes has been turning his focus to the world of biography--presenting the life stories of some of the most interesting people on the planet. His newest book, Triumphs and Tragedies: A True Story of Wealth and Addiction (www.triumphsandtragediesthebook.com), chronicles the incredible saga of plumber-turned-philanthropist Karl McMillen, Jr. Bill's previous collaborative biography is Hullabaloo!: The Life and (Mis)Adventures of L.A. Radio Legend Dave Hull (www.davehullthehullabalooer.com), a book packed with pop culture history and music. Both of those books, as well as Bill's upcoming projects, provide looks into lifestyles that are every bit as intriguing and seductive as that of deadly karate experts and scooter tramps! Bill lives in Redondo Beach with his business and life partner: editor, designer, and publisher Jennifer Thomas. The pair's upcoming publications include A Privileged Witness: The Truth About Billionaire Edmond Safra's Death with Ted Maher, the man wrongly condemned for the crime; Scars from the Claws: My Life with Bobby Seale, the autobiography of Bobby's ex-wife Artie Seale, who suffered abuse at the hands of the famed Black Panther Party founder; and Face to Face with George Christie: Notes and Wisdom from Solitary Confinement, the Road, & Other Interesting Places to Think, with former Hells Angel leader George Christie.Since 2003, Hayes has proudly served as the National Press and Publicity Officer for the Boozefighters Motorcycle Club, continually striving to get the media to trade in their sensationalism for the truth. He has appeared on several television documentaries, including the Biography Channel's Biography of the Hells Angels, the History Channel's America's Book of Secrets, A&E's history of the Crocker Motorcycle, and the Military Channel's documentary on outlaw motorcycle clubs. In 2011, he was awarded the prestigious Silver Spoke Award by the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM) for his efforts. In addition to writing, Hayes is a fifth-degree black belt in Chinese Kenpo Karate. He and Thomas co-own and run their own studio in Torrance, California (www.oldschoolkenpo.com).Hayes remains active in the music community playing bass in two Southern California bands, L.A. & Code Bluz (www.laandcodebluz.com) and the Kara Turner Band ( www.karaturnerband.com).

This book is confusing to me, at the least. It claims to be, in his words, an "education that gives the devil-and his death's head- his due. It gives respect and recognition to the righteous god who placed the tattooed flesh and the crossed bones into the body of modern biker culture". Sounds ominou...

A mix of unrelated journal entries and photos (that had no role to advance the text). I admire the poetic genius of Oliver Sacks and the attraction for New York but somehow this book missed something that could have made it a memorable memoir.

Well, it's not really about Gray, it's more about Carver the man who has drawn the illustrations. And mostly it's about Hayes' dip into anatomy & dissection. Surprisingly I didn't mind about the graphical description of cadaver & body parts, turns out I'm not that squeamish. All in all quite good, t...

Ambitious Regency era epic about an actress making her way through a trying marriage and her career. I bought this mainly because I liked the authors from their Days of Our Lives roles.
