I first read this book 20 years ago and I feel it holds up well over time. Blanche White is a woman struggling to keep her life together, raising her sisiter's kids, working as a maid, and avoiding a 30 day trip to jail by "going on the lam". She's a great no-nonsense character who gets herself into...
Blanche is such a practical sleuth, in ways that most aren't. And she's funny.
