I really hadn’t a clue about the plot of Blessed Isle when I requested it from Netgalley. It caught my eye and was published by Riptide and that was enough for me to get trigger happy with the “request” button. Turns out it wasn’t really my thing and it took me almost a month to finish. I’m not a ...

English is not my native language. So I am more familiar with "contemporary" English than "old" English. One of the reasons why I also avoid historical genre -- I don't know if I can enjoy a story if I have no idea what the words meant, right?Well, I guess when you feel for the characters, sometimes...

A nice historical forbidden love story written in alternating POVs. Nothing smutty, but they were castaways for a while, hence 'Blessed Isle'. Just like Hsin and Boyd, they HEA'd in South America!. As best I can tell, this is the only m/m ebook available at my library which is how i came to read...

While reading Blessed Isle by Alex Beecroft, I felt like I was reading poetry. Simply put, I wallowed in the beauty of this author's prose, evocative imagery, sharply defined characterizations, and a plot that flirted and lured me to keep turning pages. Blessed Isle is written in a dialogic epistol...

The beginning of this novella reminded of the famous quote about "emotion recollected in tranquility." While blissfully observing his lover sleep, Harry Thompson begins a journal of past events -- which will be frequently interrupted by Garnet sticking his own point of view in. It's an harrowing, so...

I don't like the cover...Not really, anyways.Umm...it was weird. There were a couple moments when it was evocative of Life of Pi (the movie, since I never read the book). The ending was a bit too abrupt for my tastes, but I suppose, as a journal, their primary purpose is fulfilled...?

What a beautifully written novella! I was not expecting the story that I got. :) Told by the two main characters, alternating POVs, it's the tale of two officers of the British Navy in the time of Mutiny on the Bounty. Do not look for hot, detailed sex scenes or pages of bantering back and forth...

Beautiful and lyrical story. The journal entries were heart-wrenching and honest, but they also made me smile, despite the men's hardships, time and time again. My re-read list is growing fast these days :) I really need to make up a gr list for that!

I had high hopes for this novella. It's the story of sea captain who has to fight his growing feelings for his lieutenant, in a time where a relationship between them could end in hanging. But it didn't work for me, largely because of the way the story is told. It's set up as a journal, recounting...
