3.75 4 starsGreat world building, interesting protagonists, and a fluid writing style made this a great find. I was disappointed that the villains were so one-dimensional, and the heroine occasionally annoyed me, but otherwise this was a fun read.

Can I say I love, love the cover! Too bad the book doesn't live up to the cover. The first half is a bit slow going. The last half picks up. Liked: the world building. I appreciated how vampires, varcolai, and fae came into being. I will say the varcolai and fae are much more interesting and ...

Others have said it before but I have to add to the chorus of people exclaiming about the beauty of the cover art. It's amazing and full of wow! Chrysabelle is a Comarré. A race of humans bread to feed vampires, in fact they have to bloodlet or they start to get ill, so it's a mutually beneficial ...

I wavered between 3 & 4 stars for this one. The story was very unique, but I felt lost for the first half and then some. Now that I have finished it and kind of get what was going on, I realize I was so focused on figuring the world & races out that I didn't connect with any of the characters. Not o...

This book was right right up my alley. I had seen it on several Good Reads lists but hadn't ever looked into it until I read the sample chapter that was tagged onto the end of Gail Carriger's Timeless novel. Anyways, I ended up loving it. It wasn't predictable, yet it had my two favorite urban fanta...

Pretty good first book in a series with an interesting take on vamps and other supernatural beings. The first half dragged a bit for me and I couldn't quite warm up to either Chrysabelle or Mal. The second half picked up and as we got to know them better, and see them more in action, I ended up li...

Originally published at my blog Chasing Empty PavementsFirst things first...are you looking at how gorgeous that cover is? O M G. I love it. I'm transfixed by it. It's why I requested it from Netgalley. The best thing about it though? The inside blew me away just as much as the outside did! Kristen ...

With an infinite amount of vampire books on the shelves, Kristen Painter was still able to give us a lore that is original and quite complex. Add in some intriguing characters, fascinating politics, and elaborate rules; we've got ourselves a considerably well built paranormal world. I did find the p...

Painter's writing style seems very odd to me. The chapters often seemed short and choppy. I don't think they really were, but they seemed that way. I think part of it is that there was more than just 2 point of views, as is common with PNR (which this book isn't, but I read more often than not). I f...
