You ever wonder why God (or the universe) would allow a truly awful human being like Donald Trump to flourish? I do and this book delves into that kind of question with gusto. The author, Boethius, through his dialog with the lady, Philosophy, tells us and much more. There is no cop out with his...

Urgh. I really do not like reading philosophy. It annoys me that I cannot argue with the author when I disagree with him.The Consolation of Philosophy was written by Boethius in 532 when he was under house arrest, about to be executed. In it, he struggles to come to terms with the existence of evil,...

I enjoyed First three books about happiness and fortune , then the book had been switched to Ethics and moral philosophy here I began to skip pages , no doubt that someone in his place need a " Devine " spirit to give him some consolation and Boethius called her Philosophy , no wonder that Boethius...

Philosophy comes to Boethius personified as a woman reprimanding him for his despair. Though reminiscent of Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius, the stoicism espoused is ultimately rooted in a faith that life is not subject to chance and a God that ”watches over His creation.” pg. 50. Though concise an...

Mentioned in Evening in the Palace of Reason, which reminded me that I've always had a weird sort of feeling about this book, similar to how I felt about Led Zeppelin when I was eight - that it was some sort of magical thing different than all other bands. I don't know where I picked up this feelin...

Boethius lost everything to the vicissitudes of Roman politics and went into exile. Philosophy anthropomorphized as a woman appears to him and helps him out of despair by clearing up his thinking. A unique blending of stoicism and early Christian thought, the Consolation teaches that despite appea...
