In a word: magnificent. From his early beginnings in Berlin to his maturing into a true man of God, this stunning work shows Bonhoeffer's strength to stand and face, head-on, the evil of an emerging Nazi regime led by a relatively unknown foreigner, one Adolf Hitler. In spite of Hitler's persuasion ...

A note in re. my reviewerly shortcomings: Let me preface this by saying that I am about as ill-qualified as one can be when it comes to ecumenical history. The full extent of my knowledge on the Protestant Reformation is that Martin Luther posted 95 theses on the door of a church on October 31, 1517...

We all know history is written and it’s no use wishing for some other outcome when reading a biography or history book. Yet reading this book I felt a terrible suspense. An amazing atory about an amazing man. I'm struck by how despite all that was going on around him, Bohnhoeffer could see the right path, and stay on course in the midst of incredible pressure. Well woth the read.

I am reading the library copy of this book, and it is due tomorrow. I have not finished it, but am about 1/2 of the way through. I have read many books on Bonhoeffer in the past, and have read a substantial number of books written by Bonhoeffer himself. He has always fascinated me. A Christian, ...

Hands down, the best biography I have read EVER. An absolutely fascinating read. I had a really difficult time putting this down for my other books. This heroic man was not an unknown pastor in Germany before he stood up to Hitler and the Nazi party. Like Stauffenberg, I can't figure out why this ha...
