“Born on the Night of the Living Dead” is my story about growing up in the 70’s and 80’s and the movies that affected me along the way. It begins with my entrance into the world, an event which coincided with the opening of George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, and continues through childhood as I’m introduced to monsters such as Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolfman through Sunday morning Abbot and Costello movies. The bravado I acquired facing down these fiends was quickly shattered by an accidental glimpse of the apple-headed creatures from Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, a movie that both traumatized and enticed me to seek out other terrors that lay waiting for me past bedtime.
While this was all fun, monsters soon take a backseat to films that would guide me through my first crush, high school, and a summer job at a video store.
It’s also a story about my family, the 70’s, Book and Records, my pal George C. Scott, school dances, baby alligators, The Electric Moog Orchestra, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
So hey, what are you waiting for?
"...one of my favorite books on movies and what they mean in our lives."
