Brad Alford, PhD, has contributed empirical, theoretical, and meta-theoretical research on behaviorism and cognitive therapy. Dr. Alford is currently a professor of psychology at the University of Scranton. He completed his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Mississippi, and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Cognitive Therapy, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. His work has appeared in scholarly journals such as Behavior Therapy, Behavior Modification, Behaviour Research and Therapy, Journal of Cognitive Psychotherapy, Journal of Clinical Psychology, Psychotherapy, and the Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry. Reflecting a broad theoretical focus, he has published papers in the Journal of Psychotherapy Integration on therapeutic relationship, technical synthesis within CBT, and the differences between CBT and the psychotherapy integration movement. Dr. Alford's previous positions include Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology at the University of Kentucky; Consultant to U. S. Postal Service (as an associate of Jordan & Associates, Toronto); Consultant for program evaluation and development, Cognitive Therapy Program, Charter Ridge Psychiatric Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky; Clinical Director, Northwest Tennessee Mental Health Center, Inc., Martin, Tennessee ; and Program Director, Intensive Rehabilitation Program, Western Mental Health Institute in Tennessee. He is a founding fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, and a lifetime member of the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness.
