Brenda Seabrooke graduated from Tulane University where she majored in history. She taught it briefly before turning to writing stories. "Not a big jump," she says, "because history is full of wonderful stories." She grew up reading every mystery she could find. "I loved them all. Once at my grandmother's for a weekend, I had nothing to read. In the hall bookcase I found treasure: the complete works of Edgar Allan Poe and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books. I read my way through them on visits." Now after she finishes writing for the day, she read mysteries. "I was walking across the floor at ALA (American Library Association) with the senior editor at Cobblehill Books when we passed a mystery display. I said I'd always wanted to write a mystery. She said write one for us so I did." That was the first of three ghost books for young adult readers, The Haunting of Holroyd Hill but Brenda thinks all of her books are mysteries. The characters are always searching for something, if not pirate treasure then what is the ghost's problem, or what is in a locked trunk inside of a locked closet. She loves old houses, gardens, exploring, her grandsons, and historical sites. She finds stories everywhere she goes. "When I speak at schools kids ask me if I will ever stop writing. I tell them no, not unless I run out of stories and I don't think that will happen." visit Brenda at www.childrensbookguild.org/brenda-seabrooke Books by Brenda Seabrooke:Cemetery Street (HolidayHouse)The Vampire in my Bath Tub (Holiday House)The Haunting of Swain's Fancy (Dutton Children's Books)The Haunting at Stratton Falls (Cobblehill Books)The Haunting of Holroyd Hill (Cobblehill Books)The Dragon that Ate Summer (Putnam)The Care and Feeding of Dragons (Cobblehill Books) Judy Scuppernong (Cobblehill Books)Under the Pear Tree (Cobblehill Books)
