BRIAN L. OTT (Ph.D., The Pennsylvania State University) is Professor and Chair of Communication Studies at Texas Tech University. His chief research interest concerns how media equip people to live their everyday lives. Brian's scholarship has appeared in journals such as Critical Studies in Media Communication, Communication and Critical/Cultural Studies, Cultural Studies - Critical Methodologies, Quarterly Journal of Speech, Rhetoric and Public Affairs, Text and Performance Quarterly, The Journal of Popular Culture, Western Journal of Communication, and Women's Studies in Communication.He is author of The Small Screen: How Television Equips Us to Live in the Information Age and Critical Media Studies: An Introduction (with Robert Mack), as well as a co-editor of It's Not TV: Watching HBO in the Post-Television Era, Places of Public Memory: The Rhetoric of Museums and Memorials, and The Routledge Reader in Rhetorical Criticism. He is a former President of the Western States Communication Association and a former Editor of the Western Journal of Communication.
