Brian Nelson is Professor Emeritus of French Studies and Translation Studies at Monash University in Melbourne. He was educated at Spalding Grammar School (Lincolnshire, UK) and at the universities of Cambridge and Oxford. He was lecteur d'anglais at the Ecole Normale Superieure, Paris, and taught at Aberystwyth University, Wales, before being appointed Professor of French at Monash University in 1985. He has been editor of the Australian Journal of French Studies since 2002 and is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities. In 2015 he was awarded the New South Wales Premier's Prize for Translation. His current projects include a 'critical life' of Emile Zola and a new translation of Marcel Proust's 'Un amour de Swann'.
