Brief and bloody. It is pretty obvious where this is going but Lansdale's artistry makes it worth the ride. What set it apart from just a simple Wild West style revenge shoot em up is his masterful and layered characterization of the vengeful narrator.

The last of four short stories by Joe R. Lansdale currently offered through Amazon and Gere Donovan Press. Another early crime noir tale. It was pretty easy to see where it was headed but it got there beautifully. Lansdale knows how to up the tension.
