According to bestselling political commentator Molly Ivins, America has been "Bushwhacked" by a president who has applied the same flawed strategies he used in governing Texas to running the largest superpower in the world. Ivins examines Bush's record in Texas and nationally to show how his economic policies devastated the Texas budget and now threaten the same for America, how he has waged war on terrorism by means of unprecedented challenges to our civil liberties, adn how he has decimated the gains the country has made in environmental protections, health and safety standards, adn foreign relations. In focusing attention on the 9/11 attacks, we have been distracted from the deterioration of American life and other threats of greater magnitude.

She had the misfortune to work as an editorial writer in Texas, which ele...

Have I mentioned this week just how much I miss Molly Ivins? I really miss her. Or really, anyone who can write with humor about politics while still feeling righteously pissed.

Molly writes about Texas, and in this book she shows what the impact of Bush policies has been in Texas, as a predictor for what we can expect as a nation. She is often amusing, although not nearly enough of the time. It is interesting and frightening.
