Going to applaud Laura Lippman here for tackling race. I was wondering if she was going to do it, and it's slightly imperfect, but I did love her showing how Tess was steeped in privilege and didn't even get how much until she met Jackie (one of her clients with a surprising connection to her) and L...
This was a pretty good mystery, marred by a hasty ending. But after reading that dreadful Patricia Cornwell book a week or so ago, this was just the palate cleanser I needed for that genre.I wasn't expecting too much when I opened it, and I've never read any Laura Lippman before, but from the beginn...
A good solid mystery with strong women characters. Showcases Baltimore and the people living there. It's a slice of the late 1990's with the technology of the time (era of brick cell phones, early work access Internet). Tess Monaghan has set up shop as a private detective and her first cases bring m...
I'm working through the entire series, and this one is the strongest. I'd give it 3.5 stars if possible.
4.5 stars!Memorable Scenes: - Kelly and Spence's first meet in the club > I just overdosed on raw sexual heat and tension. Am I still breathing? I think Cari just killed me...- the scene working late at the Book Nook > sweet and hot at the same time- the scene at the club with Paul > *fans self* but...
This series is easy to listen to. I like the characters. Tess has attitude when she needs it. She doesn't put up with any bs. But she has her soft side, and it works. This one was sad for a while, and I hate when so many people die. However, it ended pretty well. Jackie did the right thing.
Tess has finally hung out her shingle and she has all the right fears and anxieties that make her very fun. She’s no Janet Evenovich and I hope she never tries to be. Two baffling cases fall into Tess’s lap in one day and she is forced to deal with some very confusing people. Good as always.
