by Patricia McKillip Old style medieval Fantasy with wizards and dragons, magical animals and a child who must be hidden. The narrative reeks of fairy tale, yet doesn't come over as a children's story. Although it has the usual patriarchal society, the main character is a strong female. I can ...

... in the order in which they're appearing on my card (not the order in which they've read them). Soooo ... in this year's twist on RL doing its best trying to throw a spanner in the works of Halloween Bingo fun, I've been spending the better part of the month either sitting around in conference ...

The Forgotten Beasts of Eld by Patricia A. McKillip is a story about Sybel, a wizard that does not need the outside world. She locks herself behind her gates with her enchanted beasts, but when a soldier beckons at her gates with an infant, she about to find out about love and deceit. This story i...

My first encounter with Patricia A. McKillip, and I enjoyed every moment of it. Told in the style of a myth or fairytale, this is the story of Sybel, a young and very powerful sorceress (more of a conjurer, really) who has a very traumatic encounter with another wizard that starts her down a path of...

3.5/5; 4 stars; B+The dreamy quality of McKillip's writing draws a person in and makes the reader feel like they are part of the fairytale. I like how this author makes some pretty in depth commentary on society, gender roles, politics and intangible things like hopes and dreams. She doesn't lay it ...

One day Patricia A. McKillip will write a bad book and that'll be the first sign of the impending apocalypse. I have no idea how I went through so many years of my life without having read her books. Actually, that would probably be because there are no Portuguese translations and I have to buy the ...

A lovely little story. Beautifully written in almost poetic, flowing language. It's just not for me. I would have loved it when I was 14... probably would've given it 5 stars, but alas (or thank gawd) it's been a very long time since I've been 14. I'm glad I read it either way.

I’ve heard several people say this is their favorite McKillip. Not so much for me (so far it might be Alphabet of Thorn). It’s fine, I enjoyed it, but it’s not my favorite. [Nov. 2008]

Unfortunately not as good as I'd neither thought nor expected. It was okay, but not as captivating as I'd expected after reading all the glowing reviews it had received. But it may just have been my expectations that were all wrong - I'd expected the 'forgotten beasts' to be the main characters of t...
