7/8/12 ** A solid end to the series. Magic became more ambiguous - which was good. It became clearer that the Covenant wasn't really fighting FOR the Brits, only supporting them as a means to their own goals. Also, Proctor began to cross the line into less-clear-cut "good" magic, causing us to wo...

7/6/12 ** This was a solid sequel to PATRIOT WITCH, though as I've spent more time in the world, I'm picking some things apart a bit.Quibble #1: Proctor, Deborah & their allies are fighting against the Covenant, with good reason. I'm slightly perturbed by the sweeping generalization of good & evil ...

7/5/12 ** I thoroughly enjoyed this - a nice blend of historical fiction set in the opening months of the American Revolution and supernatural elements. Did you know that we had witches on both sides fighting a shadow war?Have I mentioned lately that I LOVE the internet? While reading THE PATRIOT W...

I have an unrepentant love of dystopian stories. I think it's an amazing vehicle to delve into men's psyche, especially when you look at the societies created. I also don't believe in utopia (someone's utopia is always someone else's dystopia). This anthology is a great collection of different dyst...

3.5 starsA very good compilation of stories exploring the them of dystopias. One warning - find some light/fluffy/happy books to read in between chunks of this book, it is just too depressing to read one after the other with no relief. Some classics, like "The Lottery" and "Minority Report", and pl...

This was a very strong anthology of dystopian stories. There are a lot of well known authors, often multiple Hugo or Nebula award winners. There were a lot of stories I really liked and I can't think of any that struck me as particularly weak or mediocre. I particularly liked the final story, Civili...

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to rate this. On the one hand, I can look at it objectively and see that it contains a lot of quality vampire stories, with a wide variety of takes on what makes a vampire, and what makes a human. On the other hand, I just could not focus on any of the stories...

This is a good collection of vampire stories all sewn up in a nice anthology. Mr. Adams once again does a good job of putting a very readable collection together.
