Following in the tradition of Stieg Larsson and Camilla Läckberg: the American debut of Danish crime queen Sara Blaedel's internationally bestselling novel.A young woman in Copenhagen, Susanne Hansson, becomes the victim of an unusually brutal rape attack in her own home. detective inspector Louise Rick is summoned to talk to the victim, where she quickly determines that Susanne met the rapist via a dating website, a fact that Susanne shamefully tries to hide, especially from her domineering mother. The police suspect that the rapist may have been caught on video in the subway, so Louise and a colleague go through the tapes. They’re lucky enough to find him, but unfortunately the image is blurry and shows him only in profile. While the police investigation is making progress, things take a negative turn for Susanne, who tries to commit suicide. The rape is not the only reason. In the meantime Louise becomes more and more immersed in the online dating world. In her search she comes across the web site “nightwatch.dk,” which allows her to upload images that show people out in the night-time scene and who they’re with. She finds a picture of the man, who is now calling himself “Prinzz.” She contacts him using the name "Princess," and they agree to meet. With a climax as suspenseful as it is shocking, Sara Blaedel's American debut confirms her as one of the brightest stars in the new wave of Scandinavian crime novelists that has riveted the attention of readers around the world.

I received The Forgotten Girls, the seventh book in the Louise Rick series, from Goodreads and I absolutely loved it, so I decided to go back and read some of the earlier books. I have to say, compared to the seventh book, this one was kind of a let down. The story is really slow and bogged down wit...

An average police procedural set in Denmark. The main character was a bit too flighty for me and I did not really care about her personal problems. The writing was a bit wooden but that might have been the translation.

4.0 Call Me Princess
I'm slowly wading through my NetGalley backlog and this was one of the oldest titles there. My apologies to everyone for being so abysmally late, but I'm glad I decided to read this instead of just chalk it up to the list of forgotten. Call Me Princess isn't the kind of crime novel I've read before....

Two of the reasons that Nordic Noir is one of my favorite genres is for its' intense character development and its' twisted plots and storylines. I felt both of those things were missing in this book. Had this book not been classified as Nordic Noir, it probably would have been rated higher. Thus, t...

Originally published at my blog Chasing Empty PavementsThe Good: This book starts off intense and holds on to that intensity all the way through. There were some scenes that had me on the seat of my pants. I really liked the mixture of work versus home life with Louise. Each chapter rolled seamlessl...
