A History Nut's Romantic State of Mind
The book had a very promising beginning. Writing is smooth and flows well. A very pleasant reading experience. The story is typical. Confession time: I never read straight up romance. I've been an action/fantasy kind of girl for as long as I could remember, and even when I do read something that's clearly romance-focussed, I make sure it at least has a setting that I can focus on. Julianne Maclean is consistently good at writing romances. I like the Highlander theme and this series is great. This and the 2nd book were my favorites.

Though, she somewhat redeems herself at the end(thank goodness), her idealism and judgment led her to think and...

3.5/5; 4 stars; BA better than expected historical romance. The main characters were reasonable and intelligent. Anthony Ferguson was a good narrator.

This book is set during the Jacobite Rebellion in 1716 where the Scots fought against the English occupation of Scotland. The Engligh burned crofts for no reason and raped women and children and pillaged at will. Of course the Scots retaliated with eye-for-an-eye brutality. The Butcher of the Hig...
