I don’t think I knew how much I needed this book until I started reading. Yes, it’s based in our current reality but Hiaasen has a gift for stretching that reality to ridiculous lengths until you reach a place where you can only look up & laugh. However, fair warning to fans of the Orange One & his ...

This is an amazing book. I loved every page of it! This is the kind of book that you want to keep reading to find out what happens next. There is never a slow moment. It was hard for me to put down. I read a few pages every chance I got. I really enjoyed the plot and characters. A great book about f...

Hoot is a story that focuses on how you treat someone and how others around you are treated. It would be a great book to talk to the class about making a change in society. The activity that I would include would be having the students write a persuasive letter on an important issue. I would use thi...

Soooo…..a reality TV star walks into a local pub & proceeds to crack jokes about the LGBTQ community & motorcycle clubs, unaware he’s in a gay biker bar. What could possibly go wrong? If you’ve read Hiaasen before you know what will follow…..hilarity, utter mayhem & a cast of loons running amok so...

This was a fun and laugh-out-loud book populated with plenty of 'characters'. I have only been to Florida once, so I can't comment on the veracity of this portrayal of Floridians, but I can't see how someone can make up this kind of weirdness without a grain of truth behind it all. Under the levity,...

I'd have to say this isn't my typical type of book, so I'm glad it was selected for Action group's read this month. I found it enjoyable. I think that if this was a movie, it would be a Steven Soderburg movie for sure. I could see his touch all over the movie adaptation. What I liked:*I liked the wry...

Perfectly suited to middle school readers. Poop, intrigue, kids besting adults at their own game, realistically flawed parents. Carl Hiaasen isn't phoning it in for this age group.

Admit it, you thought math was boring in school, didn't you? Here to prove it doesn't have to be that way is Carl Lupton, with a multimodal story- and work-book that engagingly presents basic geometry ideas to an elementary school audience. It's a clever book on many levels. First, the story its...
