Dr. Caroline Joan ("Kay") S. Picart (M.Phil, Cambridge University, Sir Run Run Shaw Scholar & Wolfson Prize Winner; Ph.D., Pennsylvania State University; Postdoctoral Scholar, Cornell School of Criticism and Theory; joint Juris Doctor/Law (cum laude) and M.A. in Women's Studies, 2013, University of Florida) is a scholar, critic, former tenured Associate Professor of English and Humanities, and author/co-author of 19 published and forthcoming scholarly books. She was awarded the prestigious "Best Essay Award" by Dapim, an international scholarly journal on Holocaust studies in Israel, in 2016.She is now an attorney, practicing in appellate federal criminal law and appellate family, and concentrates most of her scholarly writing on crime and law, intellectual property, and international law.She has also authored numerous refereed and edited articles, published or forthcoming in research journals, inclusive of the East Asia Law Review, Cardozo Journal of Law and Gender,International Community Law Review, Florida Journal of International Law, California Western Law Review, Arizona State Law Journal, Journal of Criminal Justice and Popular Culture, Film & History, Qualitative Inquiry, The Long Term View, Women and Performance, Scope, Communication and Critical/Cultural Studies, Rhetoric & Public Affairs, Film and History, p.o.v., A Danish Journal of Film Studies, Jump Cut, Pacific Coast Philology, Critical Studies in Media Communication, Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, Human Studies: A Journal for Philosophy and the Social Sciences, Philosophy Today, Social Studies of Science, Journal of Nietzsche Studies, Journal of Speculative Philosophy, ACME: An International E-Journal for Critical Geographies, Southern Journal of Communication.She has also written 87 print publications as a columnist or invited writer in newspapers and magazines in Seoul South Korea and in various parts of the United States, such as The Korea Times, The Korea Herald, Center Daily Times, Voices of Central Pennsylvania, Boca Raton News, Filipinas Magazine, Asia Trend Magazine, and the Tallahassee Democrat. In 2010, she was a Florida Bar Foundation Fellow.She has taught courses in Philosophy, Biology, English, Film, and Law, across the Philippines, South Korea, and various parts of the United States, prior to proceeding on to law school at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. In May, 2013, she graduated as a joint Juris Doctor (cum laude) and Tybel Spivak M.A. Teaching Fellow from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and the Center for Women's Studies, University of Florida. From August 2008 to April 2009, she produced and hosted her own radio show, available through www.drpicart.com; market research showed that when she closed the radio show, en route to law school, the show, in a mere nine months, was carried by 59 national and international affiliates, which, at that time, amounted to an estimated listenership of over two million monthly listeners, nationally and internationally.
