Carrie Stone, JD, is an LGBT legal rights activist, co-owner/operator of Rainbow Law (www.rainbowlaw.com), the first and only online legal information and document preparation resource designed specifically to help the LGBT community create vital legal protections. Carrie is also a freelance writer, blogger and podcaster.Carrie received her Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) at West Virginia University (WVU) College of Law where she was a recipient of a public interest law scholarship. She’s been a guest lecturer at WVU, teaching courses in women’s studies, LGBT legal rights and comparative law. Carrie is also a frequent speaker on LGBT legal issues and civil rights at college campuses, churches, community centers and LGBT events across the country.In 2004, Carrie, along with her life partner, Elisia Ross, journeyed over 3,000 miles on a bicycle ride - from San Francisco to New York City - to advocate for marriage equality. A documentary about the ride called, A Time to Ride, was made by award winning filmmaker Keith Wilson. Along the route, Carrie spoke to politicians, the media, at churches and on the steps of city halls about the need for equal legal rights for LGBT families.OUT Magazine recognized Carrie’s efforts by presenting her with the OUT 100 Award for her contribution to LGBT society and culture. In addition to OUT, Carrie’s been featured in the Advocate, Girlfriends and Curve magazines, and on a variety of radio shows and online magazines.Carrie married Elisia in 2003 in Ontario Canada and, for the past 8 years they’ve been building a sustainable house out of recycled materials on 6 acres in rural West Virginia.
