Casimir Valla is a US citizen, who made his consecration to Mary over twenty years ago, and has been translating Marian works for well over a decade.Little did he know that a providential meeting some years ago would turn out to be life-changing. He happened to meet someone who introduced him to devotion to Mary, specifically to St. Louis-Marie de Montfort’s “True Devotion to Mary”. At the time, he did not know that this was Bl. Pope John Paul II’s favorite book. Coming to a fuller realization of the riches in this book, although he did not fully comprehend it, he began to search everywhere for books which could unlock its treasures. There were very few in English, and those were out of print. There were, however, numerous very good books in French. Initially, he wanted to read them for his own benefit. Having learned that Bl. Pope John Paul II said that he had to reread the “True Devotion to Mary” often in order to understand it, he thought others might be in the same situation and might appreciate having excellent, in-depth books about this increasingly growing Marian devotion. In translating them, he could see more and more why St. Louis-Marie de Montfort said: “I have never known nor heard of any practice of devotion towards Her at all equal to the one which I now wish to unfold” (True Devotion to Mary, #118).
