The English version of Struwwelpeter by Heinrich Hoffmann. I definitely prefer the German version. In the English version the only story I really liked was the one about lying.

Edward Gorey fastidiously illustrates these cautionary tales. One would be tempted to read one of these scary tales to a particularly bratty kid to cure him. Might work.
