Charles Palliser has published five works of fiction including the historical novels The Quincunx (1989) and The Unburied (1999). His latest novel is Rustication (November, 2013). It takes the form of the diary of a 17 year old writing in the 1860s: His family have suddenly lost everything and he joins them in a remote and unfriendly village on the South Coast. Shortly after his arrival, sinister things start happening in the district which culminate in a murder.Charles Palliser has written plays for BBC radio and the stage. Before becoming a full-time writer in 1990 he taught literature and creative writing in universities in the UK and the USA. His fiction has been translated into a dozen languages. The Quincunx was awarded the Sue Kaufman Prize by the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. With Irish and US citizenship, he has lived mostly in the UK and is now based in London.
