'Why are you so happy?' Cat asked Gwendolen.
'Because he was touched at our orphaned state.' said Gwendolen. 'He's going to adopt us. My fortune is made!'
Everyone says that Gwendolen Chant us a gifted witch with astonishing powers, so it suits her enormously when she is taken to live at Chrestomanci Castle. Her brother (better known as Cat) is not so keen, for he has no talent for magic at all.
However, life with Chrestomanci and his family isn't what either of them expects. Worst of all, magic is completely forbidden outside of lessons! Gwendolen is furious and sets out to get herself noticed - with explosive results!

Elegant and charming. Cuffed at 4 stars because it didn't quite surpass Howl's for me. Absolutely loved it though. Looking forward to the rest.
The reason I love Diana Wynne Jones' books is that her story always came up with an innovative ideas in fantasy novels. From basic setting storyline to plot twists, alls are creative and enjoyable to read. Her story never progressed in the fixed formula of fantasy. All of that above I was experience...
