Cherie Priest's Toll does not strictly involve the Three Billy Goats Gruff and a troll but it could. The novel details a small town in a swamp that has a problem with people going missing. Two old ladies may know the secret, or they may not. What makes the novel work is the atmosphere which p...

Libby and May met when they were in the 5th grade and became fast friends. Together they created a comic called "I am Princess X." After Libby is killed in an auto accident, May gives up on the comic and Princess X is no more.Fast forward about 3 years and May is now 16/17 and she notices Princess X...

This is perhaps the weakest book in the Clockwork Century series. It is basically a young man's adventure story. The best parts are the comments on drugs and the use of Bigfoot.

Now this is what a haunted house story should be. Good atmosphere, creepy story. Good characters.

One of my favorite literary nuns is in this book. Priest's novella is set in the Clockwork Century world and deals with the historic Galveston Hurricane. It also concerns a haunted hotel. This isn't going to be to everyone's taste, most of the all the ending isn't - though I enjoyed it.

The 1st part is told in 1st person, but with several viewpoints. Each chapter is a different viewpoint- but no cha...

I've been trying to read this for months. I put it off because I just didn't have the time, but I wasn't all that interested in it either. I tried picking it up again but I just can't get interested in any of the characters or the world. It seemed like a neat concept, but there's this almost fairy-t...

Priest is one of my favorites. Two of her books, as a matter of fact, sit on my favorites shelf. That said, I probably went easier on this book because of that when, in my opinion, the book completely falls apart in the last act. Well, to be fair, it doesn't fall apart so much as it stagnates. Let...
WackyAki's Books: The Good, The Bad, The Horrendous
I've been increasingly dissatisfied with quite a number of vampire books. Especially if there's a female vampire that's the main character. Somehow, despite the fact that the main character (female) is a vampire, she still has to be rescued by the macho manly vampire. It's not cool anymore. Le...
