Some books are carried by the voices of the narrator alone, while I understand that this author's writing style and prose is beloved by many readers, I am not one of them. I found it stodgy, dull, and slower than molasses. Couldn't get past 1/4 of the book.

For some reason this didn't grab me. Nothing about the writing, probably just the headspace I was in.

I'm trying to think of a way to describe this book, and I find I'm at a loss for words. Intriguing, interesting, delicious, yet deep and satisfying. Somewhat dark, but still lots of fun. Different from most every book being published in the young adult category today. I love having an unreliable nar...

Oh, Chime how I love thee! Somewhere in the countryside of early 20th century England (the time and place remain elusive) Briony Larkin believes she's a witch. She mentally handicapped her lovely twin Rose and injured her Stepmother, who has taught her the ways of the Old Ones who live in the near...

Whilst at first my thoughts were 1. weird 2. not for me and 3. quirky. I ended up loving this. It didnt take me long to be entrapped by the writing which was dark and traditionally different from the standard direction of YA writing these days. Loved the self-loathing main character. "The kitchen do...

In many ways, Franny Billingsley’s Chime is a difficult novel to describe. While targeted to young adults, many of the themes are predominantly adult and rather psychological in nature. The supernatural elements are understated, making the reader question whether they are a figment of Briony’s activ...

Chime is not a book that every reader is going to love. I spent the first 150 pages trying to decide whether or not I even liked Billingsley’s novel, but kept reading because I’d heard it was good and my book club was reading it. While it took me a while to adjust to Briony’s novel, Chime turned out...

I didn't like this book very much at all. There were moments of interest, and I enjoyed the sister relationship between Rose and Briony, but for the most part I couldn't get past the structuring of the language and the thick soup feeling of not understanding what the author wanted me to know. I expe...

Well, obviously, if I stayed up until 5:00 am listening to this, that means I liked it. Yeah....I liked it a lot. I don't know that this book is for everyone, though. When I first started reading it, I thought it was just weird. Well, it WAS just weird. That feeling never changed. But it was a...
