These three Fringe novels describe events in the lives of the three main characters of the Fringe TV series. I found the writing to be dull, the characters off, and some of the events either unplausible at best (even for Fringe) or too convenient. The third book was the best of the lot. It really...

GR Cleanup Read May 2011 I bought this book when it was first published way back in the early 90’s, back when I was reading a lot of Poppy Z. Brite and Caitlin Kiernan, when I was young and free, with money to burn and too damn busy with other stuff to read what I was buying apparently. At the tim...

Meh. After reading Joyland I thought perhaps I'd be categorically taken with either Stephen King and/or Hard Case Crime novels, but this one just didn't do it for me...The upside was that I couldn't help but picture the character of Lalu Malloy as Mike Ermentrout (sp?) from Breaking Bad, and I'll ne...

An entertaining thriller that adds to its noirish plot gritty realism about the behind-the-scenes workings of the adult entertainment industry. Angel Dare is the enjoyable lead among a cast of memorable characters, and while Money Shot isn't genre busting, it is well-plotted, and worth the effort f...

I tend to rate things within their own genre rather than compared to all the great books of the world. After all, if Nabokov gets five stars, very few writers are equal to Nabokov, and "not being Nabokov" seems like an unfair reason to take a star from someone. Christa Faust is a master of this part...

If you like the hard-boiled detective genre, and I very much do, Christa Faust is your kind of dame. The writing is tight, all the elements of the style are present without seeming cliched. Perfection.

While it won't win any awards for cover design, most of the stories in this doorstopper are pretty strong, with some inevitable misses. The much anthologized (and classic) "Luella Miller" and "Good Lady Ducayne" are here, and Connie Willis's "Jack" is always a pleasure to read. Tanya Huff, Chelsea Q...

Working in a diner, Angel Dare thought she left her past behind her, both her former career as a porn star and as a vigilante taking down the men that left her for dead. All that changed when a former co-worker, Thick Vic Ventura, walked into her diner to meet his son, an up and coming MMA fighter,...

X, a disgraced former luchadora, takes it upon herself to figure out who has been murdering Hood prostitutes all over Hoodtown, and worse for a Hood, unmasking them! All signs point to Black Eagle, a former wrestler known for being rough with women. But Black Eagle died in a car bomb explosion yea...
