Christian Beamish, former Associate Editor at The Surfer's Journal, is a writer and surfer, who built "Cormorant," his 18-foot Shetland Isle beach boat in order to explore wilderness shores by sail and oar. A "living experiment" to travel with 19th-century technology and spend extended periods of time in remote and thriving environments, Beamish's book, "The Voyage of the Cormorant," (Patagonia Books, July 2012), is a contemporary seafaring and surfing adventure with John Muir, Walt Whitman, and Henry David Thoreau as shipmates (at least in the guidance they provide in their writings). "The Voyage of the Cormorant," is but the latest adventure of many more to come.
