Christopher Dow (born June 17, 1950) is an American writer. In addition to having written novels, volumes of poetry, and essays and articles, he is the author of several books on the martial art of tai chi chuan. Dow's articles on tai chi, which he has practiced since the late 1970s, have appeared in Tai Chi Magazine, Inside Kung Fu, and Yoga Journal. He also has written, directed, and produced video productions, including a documentary series, shot over the course of five years, on the development of the first nationally sanctioned kung fu tournament in the United States, the U.S. National Chinese Martial Arts Competition. His awards for writing, editing, and video include a Silver Award for Historical Documentary from the Houston International Film Festival and a Grand Gold Award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. From 1994 to 2012, Dow edited Sallyport/Rice Magazine, the magazine of internationally renowned Rice University. He also has served in various positions for a number of Houston-produced magazines and publications, including contributing editor for AAA's Texas and New Mexico magazines, editorial board member for the Greater Houston Partnership's "Here Is Houston," and publisher and editor of Phosphene and Dialog, Houston's first two independent literary/arts magazines.
