Listening Length: 12 hours and 8 minutes
Program Type: Audiobook
Version: Unabridged

In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe has neither the look nor the voice of divinity, and is scorned and rejected by her kin. Increasingly isolated, she turns to mortals for companionship, leading her to discover a power forbidden to the gods: witchcraft.

When love drives Circe to cast a dark spell, wrathful Zeus banishes her to the remote island of Aiaia. There she learns to harness her occult craft, drawing strength from nature. But she will not always be alone; many are destined to pass through Circe's place of exile, entwining their fates with hers. The messenger god, Hermes. The craftsman, Daedalus. A ship bearing a golden fleece. And wily Odysseus, on his epic voyage home.

There is danger for a solitary woman in this world, and Circe's independence draws the wrath of men and gods alike. To protect what she holds dear, Circe must decide whether she belongs with the deities she is born from, or the mortals she has come to love.

DNF: 26% [spoiler] I'm not fond of writing negative reviews, but I'm sorry to say that this story didn't sweep me off my feet. Before I started the audiobook, I read the synopsis and bits of the positive reviews. I thought that this story was for me because the story sounded so exciting. I was goin...

5.0 Circe
I would give this more than 5 stars if I could! What if Circe wasn't the witch as Greek mythology recalls? Her story is expertly crafted by Miller, who could probably write an intriguing novel about watching grass grow. Read this for the story, love it for the writing. Bravo

4.0 #MythToo
Circe is best known as the witch from the Odyssey who turns men into pigs, but thanks to the complex genealogies of Greek mythological characters Circe is related to dozens of other stories. Miller picks and chooses among the myths in order to tell a coming-of-age story in which the protagonist requ...

3.5 Circe
I had to check this out several times before I finally finished it. Madeline Miller has a way of writing that makes me forget I'm reading. Circe is really beautiful prose without becoming too much. This one just never got as compelling as The Song of Achilles (hence the multiple check outs to finish...

4.5 Circe- please welcome the new, and some will say improved, Homer
This book was equal parts brilliant and addictive. I initially started this for a book club meeting that, I will admit, I begrudgingly missed BUT I dutifully and happily finished the read and boy was I glad I did. It is, as the title suggests, based on Circe, a minor Titan. It chronicles her journ...
