Yep, I do like Maeve Binchy. I hate the phrase "guilty pleasure." Binchy's books are usually unalloyed pleasure; no guilt involved. Her characters are wonderful.
Can't believe I pushed this down my "too read" list for well over a decade. It's just lovely. I stayed up until 3 am with it last night and only stopped reading then because my vision went too blurry.
Audiobook. Wonderful narration Fionnula Flanagan did a fantastic job. I watched the movie and I have to say even though this is an abridged edition, I liked it more. The ending was kind of empowering where it could have been all sad and heartbroken.
Well, what to say about this book: for once the movie is better.
It was OK, not one of Binchy's stronger books, though I really liked the main character, Benny. I just kept picturing Chris O'Donnell and feeling annoyed.
OMG this is one of my all time favorite books, i have read it countless times, all through the last ten years.
Two sheltered young women come to life in a college. There's plenty of plot, but what I love is the two girls' friendship, and "the wise woman" advice they work out for themselves. One of the best friendships in fiction.
