A mixed bag of a book. First, if fanfic is a turnoff for you, be warned there are two stories in here which are basically fanfic, one with the serial numbers filed off and one which relied on the serial numbers to make its point. Maybe it's weird of me, but if I want fanfic, I'll wander the intern...

As usual with short stories, only a few were interesting. Quite a few here were dull, frankly. I only read it for John Park's Nightward, really (it landed squarely in the interesting bucket btw). Heat Death (Patrick Johanneson), Flight of Passage (Jon Martin Watts), and One Nation Under Gods (Jer...

The Door to Lost pages is a collection of connected short stories, all written with a mix of the weird, sci-fi, bizarre, horror and fantasy genres. There are a handful of experiments with meta-fiction as well. Many of the stories left me with a kind of sharp heartache, a bittersweet hope that the f...

I'm not sure I'd call most of these stories horror. More like dark fiction. Some were a little too oblique for my tastes (I had more than a few 'Huh?' moments), but the writing caliber was good across the board. Overall rating: 3.5/5.0 starsReviewed for Bitten by Books. http://bittenbybooks.com.

A few more interesting stories, more that weren't anything special. The collection as a whole reminded me of vampire short-stories from the 80s, when authors wanted their vamps more contemporary but hadn't hit on the sparkles yet.

According to an old folktale, nightmares once covered the night sky, blotting out the stars. When those creatures of darkness invaded our dreams the night sky opened up, and the stars reveal themselves. The door to Lost Pages è un libro strano, affascinante che ti trascina tra le sue righe senza dar...

The vast majority of stories in this anthology were very good. There were a couple of exceptions and more than one author had to actually say something about how the vampires were evolving. I'm not a huge fan of authors quoting the theme or name of their story. It always feels heavy handed to me. Al...

Vampires fans, this is a must read. Not quite what I would call an anthology, this is more like tid bits, but enough to tempt your pallet. Evolve is stuffed full of shorts that all have one thing in common, good writing about the fabulously fanged. This is great book to keep on your nightstand to gr...
