by Cherie Priest
I cheated a little with this book. Once I was drawn in to Boneshaker, I had a feeling I was going to continue reading the series, so I requested this volume from the library before I went out of town on a trip so I could continue reading it without interruption. I saw the Clementine mentioned in the...
Clementine is a slim book, a fun romp, but in some ways unsatisfying, and in others, a little...troublesome. Which is perhaps too much thought to put into a book that seems to be intended as brain candy and little more. But still, doubts remain. Can you really keep slavery as an aspect of life in th...
Not nearly as good as Boneshaker. The sequel was barely readable and I'm being kind by giving it a one star. This is a non cohesive crime story about a detective chasing a pirate as the pirate attempts to steal the air ship "Clementine". I don't think that there was enough world building or characte...
What kind of book is this? Is it science fiction, alternate history, steampunk, or just madcap adventure? All of the above.Clementine is is part of the Clockwork Century series, and I admit I cheated and read these out of order, starting with this book. The storyline was a huge draw, honestly.I'm a...
Not the best of them, but I'm going to say how much I love how Cherie Priest's protagonists vary in age, race and politics. The Clockwork Century has a lot of potential, so it's great to see it open up to a mulittude of characters, even if we do see some familiar faces from time to time,
A fun, quick swashbuckling romp of escaped slave air pirates, divided loyalty lady spies, evil military dudes and hapless mad scientists. Theres a few issues I could pick at, maybe, but I feel like the story is verve-y and well intentioned enough that it doesn't deserve it.
I really enjoy this series. It's a modern, steampunk dime novel with courageous heroes and heroines on the wrong side of the law who get the job done come hell or high water. It's not YA. There isn't a teenaged MC in this one, so if you were hoping for that, be forewarned. It's also not set in Seattl...
Where Boneshaker had toxic gas and zombies, Clementine has spies, escaped slaves and airship-jacking. Much shorter and more action-packed than Boneshaker, and I thought Maria Isabella Boyd was a stronger female lead character who took charge and made smarter decisions than Briar Wilkes.I am looking...
Clementine is a pure chase novel. The main story is the cross country chase of a stolen dirigible, using, naturally, another stolen dirigible. Her lead characters really make the story, especially the female main character, Belle Boyd. She's smart and capable, but not anachronous. There is some wor...
In an alternate America where the Civil War stretches on, a former Confederate spy turned Pinkerton agent and an escaped slave turned dirigible captain may be pursuing the man -- or are they both being tricked? This book could have been a lot better with an extra few dozen pages. The characters and ...
