Reading children's books to my grandchildren, this 30-year, career teacher often thought: "But what do they teach?" When I began telling our little ones about my husband's 3 decade career as long-haul trucker, going all over America, it occurred to me: "If they like them so much, why don't I write his adventures for other children?" And so, the Grandpa and the Truck stories were born. We released Book 1 and Book 2 in the series, this summer, with Book 3 in creative stage. What do they teach? Geography and regional differences in our great land; nature with ice-slicked roads and a particularly difficult Cat. 5 Hurricane that walloped Biloxi, Miss.; historical events (Woodstock Music Festival as only a trucker could see it:) amazing life lessons (gender should never dictate career choices, it's not always wise to follow the leader, etc.)Each book has 2 beautifully-illustrated stories that come with Lesson clearly stated, Question page to go along with story, Trucker Terms, Maps (so children get other-than-GPS knowledge of our country.) We're endorsed by OOIDA and WIT, two trucker organizations that believe we're true to the industry (we should be--we're tales told by an actual trucker, written by his author wife whose works appear in Wall Street Journal, Providence Journal, and a host of others.)Just selected as one of the industry's "Cool Gifts" for November's Landline magazine.
