This book is a completely new edition of "Colorful Austria", which has been a popular favorite for many years, especially as a present to friends in all parts of the world. In his forward Heinz Scheibenpflug, a well-known Austrian writer and journalist, discusses present-day Austria and its people at the heart of Europe; while Dr. Maria Neusser-Hromatka contributes a lucid chronological table of Austria's historical development. The backbone of the book are of course the 96 pages of photographs in color, taken by Masters of their profession. The pictures are well chosen and constitute vivid illustrations of the beauties and individuality of the Austrian scene, of the nine provinces and their capitals; while reproductions of some of Austria's outstanding cultural monuments afford eloquent testimony to the country's wealth of artistic treasures. Attention is also focused on some of Austria's equally typical but less glamorous features; a hut, high alpine pasture perhaps, a wayside shrine, or an auto glimpse of some unfrequented path in the Vienna Woods. In short, the book is a worthily comprehensive presentation of a country that is rightly beloved by Austrians and visitors alike; and it is the infinite variety of the Austrian landscape that makes this country such an ideal subject for reproduction in color.
