Mike McGill is a self-professed shit magnet and as an independent private investigator, he’s brought some bizzare work by some even stranger clientele. However, nothing holds a candle to the job he’s been hired for by the president’s heroin-addicted chief of staff. Tasked with tracking down a secre...

Short, sweet, and downright ridiculous at times. I've always been a sucker for detective stories, and I'm not easily offended by much. So this book ended up being right up my alley. There's more than enough weird to freak out most people, so tread lightly if you choose to add this to your list.

If you don't "get" Warren Ellis this probably isn't for you. It's different and weird, but it's cleverly written, fast paced and it's completely Ellis. It also might ruin Godzilla for you... But it's worth the risk.

Nasty, brutish, and short. It'll take you a day or two at most to read, assuming you don't get too grossed out by some of the (apparently very real) awful things that take place. Yeah, I gotta say, this is like [b:American Gods|4407|American Gods|Neil Gaiman|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1258417001...

Not nearly as good as the premise would indicate. It starts off a little flat, toying with the down-on-his-luck PI trope, then veers into bizarro-lite terrain and teenage boy fantasies about sexy girls who just want sex with their sex and sexy-sex. After that, it's a series of loose, disjointed inte...

Is this book for you? If you're not familiar with the words "Godzilla Bukkake", probably not.Not for the faint of heart...Men who have sex with drugged ostriches are far from the strangest situation that we can find in this book lolDark humour abounds. The novel uses all the artifacts of classical p...

Seriously twisted, but Ellis has the frayed and edgy detective gimmick down. Really short chapters, absurd characters. Quick, political, irreverence with twice the bite. Definitely not something a prude should read.

Crooked Little Vein is without a doubt the weirdest book I've ever read, and easily among the most fun (and disturbing). The back cover, filled with reviews from other authors, is enough to dare anyone to read it: "I think this book ate my soul", confessed Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer serie...

Rating: 3.5* of fiveThe Book Report: How bad can a day get? Mike McGill can tell you, and he'd be right. But he doesn't know *exactly* how bad a day can be until the White House Chief of Staff (bear in mind the book came out in 2007, adjust your mental compass, and go from there) walks into his offi...
